One reason this is going to be hard to pull off is that even accepting such a thing as the mid-transition *exists* is an admission of defeat by the fossil fuel industry. Like a Miami condo developer acknowledging the need for managed retreat from the rising sea.
The idea of the mid-transition is in direct conflict with the growing all-of-the-above narrative of additive energy systems. That we'll just layer renewables and storage and new nukes on top of the existing system now that we're once again in an epoch of demand growth. It's a fossil fuel anti-meme.
