The way I understand our current situation is the boundaries of whiteness have always shifted around with politics, and right now anyone who's not also a white supremacist is now classified "not white".

So they're treating urban and educated whites similar to how they treat Black Americans.

I don’t think the second paragraph is quite literally true, but the broader observation really has something to it.
