Going back to my analysis of "loves feudalism but hates Christianity" in medieval fantasy
One author who (usually) avoids this is Tamora Pierce. She's one of the major influences on my own writing, I'm really glad I got to grow up reading her books and getting new installments as I matured. She's also got a "feudal Europe sans Christianity" thing going on that nevertheless feels whole, complete, realistic, and believable, and I think there are a few reasons for that.
