I remember when Scott Adams used a Black character in one of his strips - the first and only one that has ever appeared in any of his strips - just to deliver the line "I identify as white."

Because most newspapers didn't run the full-color version, the character in those papers who ran it ended up looking like a white person identifying as white.

The original color version of the Dilbert comic.

In panel one, the boss and the usual cast of characters are sitting at a conference table. A new character, which has never appeared before and is the only black character to ever appear in a Dilbert cartoon, is also seated at the table. The boss begins by saying, "Management asked me to add some diversity to the engineering team."

In panel two, the boss says "Meet Dave," gesturing to the black character. Dave responds with "I identify as white."

In panel three, the boss says, "You're ruining everything, Dave."The exact same cartoon, except published in black and white, as in most newspapers who carry weekday comics. Because there's no color or shading, Dave looks like a white guy, which makes his "I identify as white" actually funny.

This image was posted to Twitter, and the person who posted it back then included the quote-tweet: "Apparently Scott Adams didn't realize weekday strips don't print in color which accidentally makes this the funniest Dilbert in years."
