What community platforms would you most prefer to use as an alternative to Discord?

Constraints:
- Said community is effectively open, anyone can join, and 'join friction' is something I'd like to minimize
- I really like the real-time nature of Discord right now, vs the slow response forum style options
- I don't like how Matrix means a totally separate UI + backend, so I need to point users to a totally separate app / website, or host my own web UI on a separate domain, which is very awkward
