While prohibited, the hunting of elephants in Central Africa continues and is even exacerbated by growing tensions between large animals and riverside communities in protected areas. The mutual assistance required for large-scale butchering is reviving relations between communities, relations that have otherwise become more and more tenuous in the current context.
