The 5,000 Dolgans of Taimyr in #Siberia represent a northern branch of the Turkish language family. The nomadic life of these reindeer herders in the Arctic tundra is governed by the seasonal migration of the reindeer. In 1993, an anthropological team collected blood samples from various ethnic groups living in Siberia. The samples were then tested at the Pasteur Institute for the presence of retrovirus markers of population migration.
