To paraphrase Vladimir Putin: most of us know where Greenland is, but we never think of it. Now, Putin was taking a shot at Australia when he muttered these words, but the point is rather apt. Greenland and Australia are both large islands with comparatively small populations dispersed across vast territories. Both are usually at the periphery of day-to-day geopolitics, and neither is regarded as a major power in strategic affairs.
