The β€œDoor to Hell” or Darvaza Gas Crater, located in Karakum Desert of Turkmenistan πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡². It’s a massive, fiery pit 70m wide and 30m deep, which has been burning continuously since 1971.

The crater was formed when Soviet geologists drilling for natural gas accidentally caused ground to collapse, releasing methane gas. To prevent spread of toxic gas, they set it ablaze, expecting it to burn out in a few days. However, fire has persisted for over five decades due to vast underground gas reserves.
