It’s going on three years since tech lgbt started one of the most ugly hate incidents in the fedi’s history by circulating a host of lies about me and my projects based on its admin’s personal gripe with me.
Despite those comments being disproven repeatedly, they still follow me around not just the fedi, but other places I frequent as well, Blacksky being the most prominent.
In the time between that incident and now, the people that have decided to hate #thebadspace based on completely made up reasons have done nothing to make the fedi safer, which is allegedly how they justify their harassment.
They don’t contribute to any mutual aid or even boost any mutual aid efforts, they don’t create any safety networks, they don’t even share any information about how to recognize hateful behavior.
It’s been almost three years and the extent of their actions still revolves around hating Black folks and the non Black folks that don’t hate Black folks.
They continue to pretend to be obtuse to the fact they are they reason the fedi has such a poor reputation.
As one of the few Black folks that has some profile in the fedi, I can say I’m used to the hypocrisy here.
I’m used to people who cosplay as progressives and hide behind their queer identities in a poor attempt to hide their visceral anti-Blackness.
When you’re smart and Black in the fedi, it’s just part of the experience.
And with the people I speak to who left the fedi, it is very well known that this is how this space operates.
I’m determined (lol and a bit of a masochist, as my therapist tells me), so I believe I can work with other like minded people to improve the quality of the experience here to make it an attractive destination.
But I have no illusions about how tough a challenge that will be because, as we constantly see, there is a persistent effort to push nonwhite people out of this space by people who don’t have the courage to be honest about their intentions.
The vile hate that still follows #thebadspace around is proof of this very ugly reality of the fediverse.
