Scan of a portion of an iIllustrated manuscript in which the artist attempted to provide a rendering of a species of animal, where to quote an episode of Firefly, "Perhaps they'd only heard of them by rough description."

The animal, depicted from the side, facing to the viewer's left, is roughly the build of a cow (though the stance seems more that of a bull), complete with cloven hooves, though a stubbier (or perhaps furrier) tail. Its coat is depicted as a brownish color, with small, light-contrast, spots on the rump and loin transitioning into darker spots across the chine, withers and head. The large bull-head features: droopy, puppy-dog ears; menacing eyes; long upward thrust tusks, coming to a point half a head above the creature's noggin; and a segmented, tubular shnoz that extends down and then bends outward into a bell, as if modeled on a traditional Alpine horn.
