They're really nice and it doesn't have to be even about Python, it just has to be of interest to the Python community and there's a lot of people in that community and they're interested in a lot of things.

The worst that could happen is either that your proposal won't be picked (and then you can just go to the conference and hang out with all the lovely people there) or that it will be (and then you have to actually write the thing but then you get to present it and did I mention we're all really nice?).
