Adding to my Snowflea aka Springtail photos from yesterday: if you look closely you can see a few of them in mid air above the snow ridge. They use a spring-loaded lever on their bodies to catapult them into the air to a height of about 100 times their body length (1mm).
Also, they have an antifreeze protein in their body, thus can be active in the snow.
