There was once a time technology optimists believed the Internet would make us better informed and a global community.

What wasn’t considered was how human nature works. An example is confirmation bias, people prefer ideas that confirm their beliefs.
The internet can help you see the other side is just like you but it’s more comforting to seek voices that point out how terrible “they” are.

It’s more comforting to find a community that endorses your flaws than one that challenges them.
