표준 독일어(Hochdeutsch)는 특정 지역에서 유래했다기 보단 중립적인 문어로써 발전했는데 하노버 지역 사람들의 방언과 제일 유사하다고 합니다 (그 지역에서 유래했다는 뜻이 아님)
표준 독일어가 국가별로 깨진 건 비교적 최근의 일인데 대신 맞춤법은 범국가적으로 협의를 거치고 특히 꽤 최근인 1996년에 독일어 맞춤법이 전면 개정됐습니다. 현재 발음대로 맞춤법을 개정해서 일관성이 높습니다.
