Hot take: Thunderbird won't really be capable of replacing the big tech stacks in many organizations until it can use arbitrary OIDC identity providers (required for MFA and etc) with equally arbitrary IMAP/etc servers. Right now, you can at best use Thunderbird and company to talk to the big tech stack OIDC servers and often only their mail servers. It's nice to see Thunderbird get more features, though. This is a puzzle and we need multiple pieces to complete it.
