Through this post I found some options for those maybe wanting to explore a life without Github/Gitlab - @forgejo is a self-hosted option (https://forgejo.org/, sort of like a Mastodon version of GH), @Codeberg is a Berlin-based website, free to host open source projects (https://codeberg.org/, you could consider it like a Mastodon instance, as it is running Forgejo)
