Long, long before the show Black Mirror, my friends and I would hang out and would tell humorous stories about terrible futures where the tech that looked on the horizon went completely sideways, and it was a personal kind of science fiction dystopias I would muse over

A huge number of those are now the world we live in

That's pretty depressing

The one that really hit me: we had a joke about some dude wearing a heads up display, and a process running in the background and harvesting information about what the woman he was talking to was talking about and what their interests were, and feeding prompts to him about what to say so he could fake genuine interest and hook up with her

Literally the Cluely people have an advertisement about that being their goal
