@GhostOnTheHalfShell @dlakelanDaniel Lakeland @pluralisticCory Doctorow @elfin`Da Elf Well, taking from Universities - whether it be UC Berkeley (source of BSD that went to startup Sun Microsystems at or before it went to the Dep't of Defense that paid for the work) or work from Stanford that went to Cisco and Sun when those were startups.

(I do vaguely remember something about lawsuits by Stanford against Cisco, but I don't know details.)
