March 27, 2019: I teased a Tumblr-esque alternative called MicroUI for Pixelfed.

We almost went in this direction, but instead I focused on more photography centric features like Collections and Stories.

Now we have WAFRN (@adminWafrn - software development and instance info) as a Tumblr alt, which is much better ✨
