My gym requires a qr code only accessible with an app, which only runs if you have Google Play enabled on your device. (The store, not GPS)

I usually have Google Play disabled and up until now I could manage without apps that require Google Play, but I really need to access this gym...

What can I do? I feel like the most extreme option which is getting an ungoogled phone, would not solve this issue. I would also prefer to use this phone as long as possible.
