@inthehandsPaul Cantrell @Violinknitter I worked for one of the email coupon companies with delusions of grandeur many years back.

For unimportant reasons, we failed to personalize the coupons in our campaigns for a few weeks, falling back to a random selection to each recipient. After we fixed the integration bug, we treated it as a natural experiment of the efficacy of our personalization ml algorithm.

It was negative. Definitively. Random selection handily outperformed all the expensive personalization.
