I think something useful may come out of all this AI stuff and modern computers may finally be able to catch up with computers of the 80s.

Back when I worked at IBM for a year you could easily orchestrate multiple applications on mainframes using Rexx. It was common for applications to provide a Rexx interface. On other platforms over the intervening years we got things like Applescript and .net and variations but I find those all to be nightmarish. But MCP is pretty easy and now every application and its pet dog provides (or will provide) an MCP port. So finally my dream will come true and everything will be scriptable with actual programming languages and actual documented interfaces rather than hacks (like expect - remember expect?).

(Of course we may be beyond the time when anyone cares about scripting applications like this...)
