The rule that allow the Customs and Border Protection officers to search through your luggage without a
warrant does not extend to your electronic devices. Border officers need a warrant signed by a judge if they want to sift through material that personal to look for evidence of a crime.

EFF to Third Circuit: Electronic Device Searches at the Border Require a Warrant

EFF, along with the national ACLU and the ACLU affiliates in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit urging the court to require a warrant for border searches of electronic devices.
