One thing about the threats to Canadian sovereignty made by President Trump and others is that they are unacceptable for *any* country, not just Canada.

Since the UN charter, and somewhat before, acquiring territory by force has been illegal under international law.

It is not just an illegal way to treat a long-time ally, trading partner, and neighbour; it's an illegal way to treat any country.
