The US used invaded and occupied Latin American countries in the first half of the 1900s, but after the formation of the United Nations it was more involved in funding and supporting civil wars. Exceptions like the invasion of Panama have been criticized in the world community, and the mining of Nicaragua's harbours was a crime per the International Court of Justice. That kind of normalization is extremely dangerous.
