@bitbearAsbjørn Ulsberg @scottjenson I'm sure you'll be happy to hear that AtomPub was an immediate parent to the ActivityPub API. Back when Activity Streams was an Atom extension, I made an API for GNU Social that was AtomPub + Activity Streams markup.

@bitbearAsbjørn Ulsberg @scottjenson I think there were two main reasons. First, Mastodon already had an API when they adopted ActivityPub. Second, the ActivityPub API didn't give them everything they needed for a full client experience.
