yeah... I guess using React for your TUI application was maybe the wrong call...

This is a screenshot of the TUI application Claude Code. It’s using ! (bang) to run commands directly.

The command I’m running invokes bash with a simple script. It echoes something that contains a greater-than character (>), then exits with code 0. In that case, the output is displayed exactly as expected.

I run the same script a second time, but this time it exits with code 1, meaning it’s unsuccessful. In that case, the application tries to color everything red—which it does—but it also changes the greater-than sign into HTML entities (i.e., >).
