Has anyone considered whether Adobe Optical Metrics may have had a role in f*ing this up?

The name “FRANCISCVS” set in Times New Roman in Adobe InDesign, demonstrating the effect on spacing when Optical Metrics is applied (above), compared with the normal spacing built into the font (below). The spacing of Optical Metrics resembles the worst issues complained about on the tomb of Pope Francis. (The normal spacing isn’t particularly excellent, but it is less objectively bad.)

@kentlew Nah, it’s even more clueless: according to this article by @FastCompany, Christopher Calderhead of Letter Arts Review “found that each letter appears to be spaced equally from the furthest edge of each glyph.”
