I •hate• this trend of hiding controls behind a tap. It often turns a single tap into four.

Example: picture in picture is up on the iPad. I tap the video. Controls don’t come up right away - there’s always this delay 😡 - so I tap again. Of course this tap comes right as they show up and dismisses them. The third tap brings back the controls, I wait, and then, finally, fourth tap to go back full screen.

Same with play/pause. How often have you toggled these accidentally?
