　米国政府がMITREへの支援を打ち切ったことが明らかになり、同団体が共通脆弱性識別子「CVE」の管理で従来のような大きな役割を果たせなくなるのではないかとの懸念が広がっていることを受け、米国時間4月16日、「CVE Foundation」の設立がアナウンスされた。
