This was a really good read and it reminded me some of my recent parenting experiences. My daughter who's 11 recently asked us for an MP3 player. She doesn't have a phone yet and some of her peers do have one, so I asked if she wanted one of our old phones instead. She replied that an MP3 player is fine because she wants the music but doesn't want the bullshit (not her exact choice of words, but that was the core of it).
