June’s hush: three stones, one sorrow - etched in time beneath the trees.

Eudunda Cemetery, Eudunda, South Australia

Situated on Peep Hill Road, just outside the township of Eudunda in South Australia's Mid North, the cemetery serves as the principal public burial ground for the region.

While exact founding dates are elusive, the cemetery has been in use since at least the late 19th century. Early burials reflect the settlement patterns of German and English immigrants who established Eudunda as a farming and service hub.

Unlike Emmaus, which is Lutheran-affiliated, Eudunda Cemetery is non-denominational and includes graves from various faiths and civic backgrounds.

Black and white photograph of a cemetery with three gravestones in the foreground, framed by tall trees and a wire fence.

The stones memorialize Karoline Eckert and her infant son (both died 5 June 1891), John Blasbeke and his infant daughter (both died 6 June 1891), and Bertha Gossmann (died 7 June 1891 at 1 year and 6 months).

The clustering of dates suggests a tragic event or shared circumstance. The monochrome palette and natural framing evoke a sombre, historical atmosphere.
