My attention was brought back to this essay from 2020 which says, "scientists don't get to decide if science is political"

I know this intimately because as a queer woman raised in the right I do not get to decide if my existence is political: "I do not want your life to be political" are literally the first words that were said to me the first time I came out. Being *made political* has defined my life so I'm comfortable with it in a way that most tech people are not

You all can stay in the intro level, "oh my god are we political?!?" swirling mess forever if you want, reading fancy CS faculty in the NYT pontificate about teaching while we destroy all the funding that goes toward teaching in CS and STEM education... or you can join some of us who sit out on the beach talking about survival and frankly maybe appreciate the magnitude of our capacity to still love and hope for you, that we would even invite you
