I remember quite vividly a male teacher at the school my dad ran, an all boys' boarding school, saying it was remarkable how much I could "imitate" solutions without "understanding" them.
Since every day of my life I was kept out of school while I saw boys' schooling invested in, it was just how I thought the world worked. But I got myself into college anyway; I remember thinking to myself that I would always be at a disadvantage but I would work five times as hard as everyone else
