The royalty system is broken. Spotify unilaterally changed royalty payment rules to artists.

"Musicians might notice that 87% of tracks now receive the same from Spotify as from Anna's Archive: zero"

Freegal is offered via libraries, where you can stream 24-7 and download 5 songs a week. There's 2.6 million albums, including the Sony catalog, Black Flag, Husker Du and harder to find compilation albums.
There's also radio.garden, featuring searchable radio stations around the world. Between those two, I'm pretty much sorted for music :)
