I've been thinking about our open source package registries quite a bit. I wonder if they could be a place to collect an "open source tax" as a way to finance both the registry and the package authors.

Very much not well thought out, mind, but it's clear to me that we need to challenge both the massive corporate freeloading and the corporate dominance and this could maybe be an angle?
