introduction, long and rambly, diyhrt, some sort of generic warning for typically[?] traumaqueer topics and dystopia and some existential dread, probably fediverse meta adjacent as well, addresses reader as "you"

alright, been around since ~early june of last year and been hosting this instance for a couple months now but never made any sort of proper introduction, and feels like a good time to write out something along those lines now, because,

it’s my zeroth biHRTday :blobbee_party:

this account started out as a bit of an experiment since selfhosting sounded nice, and we wanted to be as loose as we’d like with regards to moderation [thank you, everyone at tech dot lgbt by the way! Jo and david especially for taking care of a clueless outcast that had been out of any sort of social media for nearly a decade, and the rest of the moderation team that we don’t know that much about are most probably doing an amazing but invisible job right as we speak, every day :neocat_floof_happy:] and the 1024 character count and the shortcomings of mastodon were kind of getting annoying as time went on, so now we’re here on akkoma!

we still hang out on the old account occasionally, but at this point it’s mostly just for technical stability, for whenever we’ve actively fucked something up with the server [certainly not a {sys, cis}admin but trying to try my best :blobbee_laugh_sweat: don’t be surprised if the whole instance just happens to blow up at any point, life is ephemeral anyway] and this one was initially going to be more of a personal account [still is, but changed back from followers-only-by-default some time ago and disabled authorized fetch and all, still not part of any relays, just kind of organically running into new interesting entities here and there, mostly via the close following we’d gotten introduced to through the old account]

so think of this as a bit of a diary on steroids of someone who didn’t know they’re autistic until joining fedi and just hanging out here for some months [bet you’ve never heard that story before, huh?]

the bio currently has a character limit of 100000 but some instance software apparently will cut it off at an arbitrary point - in case this introductory post becomes outdated [highly likely], refer to the bio using this instance directly for more up-to-date information instead.

some other descriptors that are quite likely to never change:

  • asexual :weed_asexual:
  • nonbinary [they/them] :tranarchy_punk_nonbinary:
  • queerplatonic :queerplatonic_heart:
  • nonmonogamous, polyamorous, relationship anarchist :infinity_heart:
other identity-related details that sound quite accurate as of the time of writing:
  • some flavor of aromantic :heart_aro:
  • some sort of feminine-ish-leaning thing :heart_demigirl:
  • enbian? :flag_enbian: panromantic? :heart_pan: lesbian? :heart_moon_lesb: [if you’re not cis, we probably like you already]
  • plural? :anarchy_punk_plural: [this has proven to be an infinite source of confusion thus far, as to how much {my,our} identity/orientation/whathaveyou is just naturally in flux and how much of it could be that it’s about completely separate entities instead, similarly to how we have no idea if memory is all kinds of messed up just because of adhd or thanks to something even more complex like amnesiac barriers, but potentially a convenient mix of both] [feel free to call us Havu even if it may be Ninya or someone else at a given point in time]

recently out to most friends and family as well, but always appreciative of more queer peer support here. quite asocial offline, grew up in very cisheteronormative surroundings, spent the majority of school bullied for being “different” without even knowing how different. alcoholic mother, mentally absent father. currently trying to unlearn at least a couple decades’ worth of emotional suppression. university dropout and somehow proud of it :neobot_thumbsup:

mostly a web developer, but slowly trying to expand and/or move onto other stuff because the future of the JS ecosystem kind of terrifies us, in addition to the whole technological landscape seeming a bit too bleak and dystopian. could write a couple more comprehensive posts about it eventually but the short version is that we absolutely fucking despise degenerative “AI” and what it’s doing to Free Software and copyleft especially. what a great idea to base off your entire module packaging system and registry as a single point of failure that was just bound to be acquired by microsoft. if you’re reading this, and you still don’t know what the difference between “open source” and Free Software is, you’ll probably want to read up a bit. gentle reminder/disclaimer that shouldn’t even need to be said though but will voice it here just in case: you can support the ideals of GNU without supporting richard stallman, just like you can use software based on the linux kernel even if you think linus torvalds is an asshole. you can and should be vocal about the ideals the free software foundation [or, these days, the european branch especially] stands for, even if you think their actions today are not what they once were, or what they {sh,c}ould be / {sh,c}ould’ve been.

feel free to take a look at the codeberg account [in the profile fields] for some tweaks here and there, mostly to do with keyboard accessibility since we don’t use a mouse. would love to help others with this stuff eventually too but currently that seems like something that’ll take far too much effort and we’re apparently in recovery from autistic burnout so we’ll only go as far as the spoons let us.

if you still use microsoft github personally, you should migrate to a Free git forge yesterday. codeberg and git dot gay are great alternatives both running on forgejo, and are powered by your donations. if you’re able to, consider hosting your own, using a whole host of available options [non-exhaustive]: forgejo, cgit, sourcehut, notabug, even gitlab community edition is better than microsoft github. heck, bring back mailing lists! did sourceforge teach us nothing?
if you are in any sort of position of power, you should advocate for others to seriously consider the same thing at an organizational level as well. if your “open source” rainbow capitalism shitfuck is reliant on microsoft github, it is not Free. software is political. if you’re trying to make it apolitical, reconsider your stance.

somewhat obsessed with all sorts of loud && beautiful music, in Free lossless format of course. if it’s symphonic and has no “singing” or guitar “riffs”, we probably like it already. refer to listenbrainz [within profile fields] for more. briefly? symphonic deathcore, rhythm game music and 200step, hardstyle and gabber from the 2010s especially, anything with non-singy vocals basically [screams, growls, shrieks, chants, you name it] [sure, singing can sound alright at times, but we’re quite tired of the “popular music” trend of a clean-sung chorus four, five times during a 02:59 track]
if it’s available for purchase, as a lossless Free digital download, recommend it to us! please don’t send links to “streaming” rental services. if we can’t buy it, we won’t even inspect it. same thing goes for series and books - feel free to recommend stuff you like! some things we’ve been into lately? fruits basket, all the star trek series, gothic sports, orange is the new black, arrested development, how i met your mother - sure, some things haven’t aged as well as others have, but always on the lookout for new discoveries :blobbee_happy:

used to be really excited about baseball, but our preferred method of consumption at the time kind of fell apart thanks to [waves hand at previous mention of technological dystopia]. currently contemplating other options such as atlantic league streaming or other such independent leagues. perhaps even a virtual private network so we could order nippon professional baseball legitimately, who knows. do let us know if you’d have some experience with any of this.
personally, have played floorball for over twenty years now, but the unnecessarily gendered nature of it has become increasingly conflicting for us, so kind of tired about the whole thing. same with most sports, really. can’t we just play alongside the company we’d like to keep instead of being forced to interact with toxic cisDudes? :blobbee_pensive:

we’re also available via signal and matrix, feel free to ask if we know you. mostly prefer direct messages here though since they’re topical and it’s easier to bounce off onto tangentials. also on steam, one of the very few pieces of [somewhat open, but] proprietary software we enjoy using. also have a nintendo ds with m3dsreal, a softmodded wii, two 3ds with custom firmware, and a stock switch, but no desire for online connectivity for the latter. infodumps about your favorite game[s] always welcome! xenoblade chronicles [the first game] is amazing! we may have an unhealthy number of playtime of it across three devices on at least five different saves.

why do we like nintendo so much if we’re so obsessed with software freedom? who knows. maybe it always felt like they were intentionally making their devices exploitable. but with how they’re going after fangames and emulators and whathaveyou, it’s increasingly conflicting. doesn’t really make sense to ship {second, third, nth} hand physical copies around the world just because you know the digital shop will eventually go down just like the {dsi,wiiu,3ds} shop did but that’s kind of what we’re stuck with. would love to just pivot to desktop gaming completely but that’s not so simple either. good old games doesn’t even acknowledge the existence of gnu/linux anymore with their galaxy junk and, yeah, sure, itch is a great alternative but somewhat intentionally in a bit of a different league compared to steam. they’re both great. but what do i think of steam? yeah, they’re a monopoly, but somehow it still feels like they’ve deserved that spot, unlike the majority of the technological monopolies out there. wish more companies were like that! and wish i could see the nuance in that train of thought more often. and if you call me a fossbro just because of my completely healthy and Normal obsession[?] with Free Software, i will block you, just because you’re calling me a bro. i’m not a bro, not a guy, not a dude, just a silly little goober.

mostly looking for personal two-way connections here - don’t be afraid to send a follow request even if we don’t know each other yet! we’d probably love to follow you back too, if you give us a reason to. we won’t know who you are if you just sent a follow request before any sort of interaction - also, the favorite button doesn’t cost you anything, right? if you enjoy our posts, let us know! react, boost, go wild! we’ll tell you directly if you’re stepping over any boundaries, don’t worry about it - and feel free to do the same unto us! ask us directly for content warnings if we missed something! replies preferred over quotes, but both welcome!

born and currently residing in frozen hell, just south of invaded Sápmi. being vegan where nothing fresh grows is pretty tough, eh? english by default, may contain some finnish here and there. capable of mostly reading swedish and german but not fluent at all for now. linguistic infodumps always welcome!

[would use the typical line of “boost for federation” here, but, who knows if the server can take it. so, just, you know, feel free to do so if you dare, and we’ll pick up the pieces eventually]
