hashtag explain your username
the format is akin to execution of a shell script. the & disown has at least a double meaning; it keeps the script running in the background, even if you close the terminal session you ran said script on [don’t @ me it’s a simplified explanation]. which is also an amazing metaphor for how our brain works. just doing stuff passively in the background. dissocation or something. the
ampersand
is a common plurality symbol; this explanation post is a bit backwards, since the symbolicism is what prompted the username in the first place, and the shell script format just happened to fit perfectly
havu is the name we chose for ourself. because our birthname does not align with our identity. we used it as a preferred name at first, and eventually went through the legal name process. the initials stand for two other first names we picked. the n specifically stands for Ninya which is the online alias we went with at first, until we settled on Havu. Ninya was a nickname for years, given to us by some acquaintances who only know us by surname. so it could be said that i made the nickname my own. or fae did. who knows. i don’t even know who i am
it can also be read as Havu NB where NB stands for
non-binary
- it is our preferred form of address whenever a “formal” “surname” is required in a demiformal context, where reveal of our offline surname is expected but not strictly required
