液体マウスウォッシュやうがい薬が排水管を詰まらせることがある。成分がタンパク質や汚れと反応して固まり、管内で蓄積するため修理費が一万円以上かかるケースもある。製品や排水管の太さで影響が変わるらしく、新築でも短期間で詰まる例がある。予防策として、うがい後に十分な水で洗い流す、一度に多めの水を流して蓄積を押し流す、定期点検を行うなどが有効。
