As the regime terrorizes our communities with masked federal agents and unchecked violence, Congress stood quietly by and passed a DHS funding bill that continues to funnel taxpayer dollars into ICE’s slush fund.

Passing this bill without any meaningful check on this lawless agency is beyond the pale. In an egregious failure of leadership, House Democratic “leaders” personally opposed the bill while declining to whip against it.

As the bill moves to the Senate, Democrats have a responsibility to draw a line. Putting actual guardrails on ICE is the bare minimum here. Allowing Trump’s brutal secret police force to operate with essentially a blank check is unacceptable.

Renee Nicole Good was not the first person killed by ICE, and without immediate, enforceable action to limit the power of DHS, ICE, and Customs and Border Protection, she will not be the last.

Andrew O’Neill on Bluesky: “Just sent an @indivisible.org note to every Senate Dem office, urging a NO vote on the DHS funding bill. We do vote recs often, but this one was different. This time we opened with a picture of 5 yr old Liam Conejo Ramos, who's been abducted by ICE. Liam, his hat, his bookbag, and his abductor.”
