I saw an interesting post by @AstroKatieKatie Mack on Bluesky (where I mostly lurk) and wondered if she cross-posted here (so I could repost). It looks like she stopped posting here in early 2024, despite having an account since 2017.

It makes me sad to see all the interesting people who have tried Fedi but not stuck around. However, I also understand it, because if you're a science communicator you can only accomplish your goal by going where the most people will see and engage with your comments. Fedi, with its smaller number of active users and poor discoverability just doesn't fit the bill. I don't know that that's why she stopped posting here, but it's what I'm guessing.

I wish these sorts of examples would serve as a wake-up call to people who think that Fedi doesn't need to focus on growth, doesn't need to employ any sort of more sophisticated feeds/discoverability, or that people don't stick around only because they didn't give it a fair chance.
