I sometimes like to watch urban planning videos. I couldn't really tell you why. They often talk about "induced demand". The idea that adding more lanes to a highway actually makes traffic worse. I always found this a little hard to believe but, after spending two hours in bumper to bumper hell on a 16(!) lane freeway in Phoenix, I think they might be on to something.
