it appears we're probably not the right people to try to boot the thing, but we might be the right people to figure out the file format

it would be a natural supposition that, since this was an operating system installer tape, it leads off with a bootloader + trivial untar

but we don't actually see anything resembling a modern tar header anywhere in the file. we could be missing it, but it also feels plausible to us that it's not wrapping a tar, or at least not a tar in the modern sense
