Once again reminding people who are being politically active that being tedious and overblown in certain ways is actually an internal status play, even if you don't recognise it. You might say that it's protecting women or people of colour or trans people, but depending on context, it's not unusual for it to actually be shoring up your own status as sufficiently progressive.
