Maybe (or maybe not!) a practical way to look at what AI will do to the software industry is to look at how photography has evolved over the years. Prior to generative AI, there was stock photography and then suddenly everyone has a digital camera. While the profession changed pretty drastically, it's still a profession that is in high demand. Skills matter. Not everyone wants to learn photography. Even fewer people want to learn programming.
