When I was little, my brother would just sit there and harass me. He did this flagrantly, out loud, in front of everyone. My parents only response was to tell me to ignore him. Not that many years later, he was still doing it, but with more violence. Every interaction with him turned violent, sooner or later. Usually sooner. At some point they stopped bothering to tell me to ignore him; they just ignored me, instead.

Living in this country for the last 10 years has been an unrelenting rapid fire repeat of that experience, and today has been particularly bad.

But here's the thing. The way that a lot of people post *on here* is more of the same.
