America's fundamental problem is that it has never meaningfully punished rebellion, insurrection, or even outright treason.
Pardons were issued for the Whiskey Rebellion, the Civil War, and January 6. Nixon committed treason to get elected, Reagan worked to keep American hostages held for political gain to get elected.
Until and unless the United States decides to punish those that actively undermine the country itself, we are destined to fail; it is inevitable that more attempts will succeed.
