Inspired by a post which I just saw, which I don’t want to derail with my own semi-unrelated take:
Real talk, the more I learn about the niche parts of programming that interest me, the more isolated I feel because the fewer people I can talk to about the things I know well. When I was less aware than I am today I could be a part of the huge swaths of JavaScript FP beginners who hated on OOP without really understanding it, and there was a nontrivial sense of belonging.
This is why I can’t get off Reddit (even though most interactions there are unsatisfying) and why technical conversations on Mastodon and via email are so vivifying.
