The kicker is we all already know this. When we think about how to be good pet owners, doesn't that involve playing with our pets? We play out their social behaviors, simulating hunting, pretend fighting, grooming (pets), etc.

We as a species have a much wider scope of social behaviors we engage in. Yes, we hunt, and we gather, and we fight -- we play sports. We also converse and argue, form social groups -- so we play drama. We play stories. We play music.
